Starbucks Veterans Day

I’m currently verifying Veterans Day discounts for 2024, but let’s take a look back at what Starbucks offered in 2023 to military members and veterans.

Last year, Starbucks provided complimentary beverages to both current and former military personnel on Veterans Day like a free hot or iced coffee of your choice at participating locations. Starbucks did not require verification of military ID – veterans, service members, or military spouses simply needed to request the offer at the counter when placing their order.

Does Starbucks Have a Military Discount?

While Starbucks does not offer a universal military discount across all its stores, some individual locations may provide discounts. For instance, many Starbucks stores in airports participate in travel and hospitality franchise discount programs including military discounts.

This SB employee also shared:

I work at a licensed store, we have a student discount of 10% and a veteran discount of 25% (we include police, emt/paramedics, and firemen in this bracket as well).

My local Starbucks coffee shop here in San Antonio doesn’t offer a military discount but I recommend that you contact the Starbucks closest to you to find out if they offer a military discount.

Starbucks Veterans Day Discount

Starbucks has a long-standing tradition of honoring Veterans Day with a special military discount by offering free coffee to military veterans, active-duty service members, and military spouses to celebrate the November 11 holiday.

Last year Starbucks expanded its Veterans Day offer to include iced coffee in addition to the traditional 12-ounce hot coffee. This adjustment reflects Starbucks’ responsiveness to customer preferences, especially among younger generations who show a strong preference for cold coffee. According to a 2020 investor report, millennials and Gen Zers under 30 are twice as likely to choose cold beverages over hot ones.

To redeem this Veterans Day freebie, patrons must order in-store or via the drive-thru. The offer is not available through Starbucks’ app order-ahead option.

Continuing its support for veterans, Starbucks also contributes to veteran-focused charities on Veterans Day. Previously, Starbucks donated $0.25 for every cup of brewed hot coffee sold nationwide on Veterans Day. For 2023, Starbucks pledged $200,000 split between Team Red, White and Blue, which promotes veteran community and fitness, and the Travis Manion Foundation, an organization that empowers veterans and families of fallen service members.

Starbucks Military Appreciation Month

Every day, Starbucks actively contributes to the well-being of communities it serves through initiatives that promote opportunity and inclusion. The company’s commitment to military partners, like all Starbucks employees, reflects its core values of dignity, respect, and kindness.

During Military Appreciation Month, Starbucks honors and supports those who serve with a range of initiatives:

Benefits for Military Community

Starbucks partners who are military veterans can extend the Starbucks College Achievement Plan benefit to a qualified family member, providing 100% tuition coverage for a first-time bachelor’s degree. Also, members of the U.S. National Guard and Reserve receive up to 80 hours of annual military leave with full pay to fulfill their annual training obligations.

Building Military Family Stores

Starbucks has established over 100 Military Family Stores nationwide, including the Frederick, Maryland location at Yellow Springs. These stores serve as community hubs for active service members, veterans, families, and civilians, fostering connections and advancing veteran causes. They also prioritize hiring veterans and military spouses.

Supporting Military Communities

During Military Appreciation Month, Starbucks collaborates with Operation Gratitude and Blue Star Families by offering a special Starbucks eGift Card. For every eGift Card purchased in the Military Appreciation Month category from May 1-31, Starbucks donates $5, split evenly between the two organizations.

Throughout its commitment to the military community, Starbucks has impacted over 900,000 veterans, military spouses, and military communities through partnerships with veteran service organizations (VSOs). This dedication extends beyond Military Appreciation Month as evidenced by its ongoing efforts including:

  • Hiring Veterans and Military Spouses
  • Offering Partner Benefits
  • Supporting Nonprofit Organizations
  • Donating Coffee

For Starbucks, supporting the military community is a year-round endeavor.

Veterans Day 2020

I visited this busy Cafė with my daughter on veterans day. They gave me a free hot coffee which is excellent.

We ordered breakfast that It was already prepared but it took quite a long time for them to serve it.

Mad-Tee outstanding service!

I was at the Starbucks at 2356 US Hwy 93 N Kalispell, MT 59901 on Veterans’ day! And the place was hoping busy! The staff of 5 employee’s all had their hands full with the pace of the day’s efforts and was working well. There was one employee who really had the upper hand on it! One employee stood out from the rest with their efforts and that was “Mad-Tee” who I had the pleasure who took my order. She had it all working for her!

I wanted to bring this to your attention, since employee’s in this day and time, are hard to find! Yet, alone employee’s who can work in this type of environment when allot is asked of them. Please continue to hire more like Mad-Tee, and give her a raise, and feel valued for her work. Doing this will find me standing in line ordering my Starbucks coffee and pastry (even if it is not Veterans Days).
